Matt is a Clinical Research Scientist at ZOLL Medical Corporation in Pittsburgh where he has many roles that include developing clinical trial protocols, performing data analysis, conducting preclinical studies, and interacting with physicians and KOLs. Matt joined ZOLL in the fall of 2017. Since then, he has been working with multiple departments, including regulatory affairs, marketing, and new product development. Matt received his BE in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University in 2011 and his PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 2017. His PhD research, under Dr. James Menegazzi in the Department of Emergency Medicine, focused on innovative solutions towards improving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). At Pitt, Matt was also active in Fourth River Solutions as a consultant, and participated in Pitt’s 1st Gear Program. Matt was part of a team developing CPR technology (SmartCPR) and received initial funding from the Center for Medical Innovation (CMI) program at Pitt, as well as Phase 1 Ventures, a commercialization program within the Science Center in Philadelphia. SmartCPR uses an adaptive approach to mechanical chest compressions that utilizes biosignals from the patient during CPR. In addition to his translational research experience, Matt also has a strong clinical background having volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician at Foxwall Emergency Medical Service and worked at UPMC as an artificial heart engineer supporting patients on left ventricular assist devices (LVADs).
