Spread the love

The Center for Commercial Applications of Healthcare Data (CCA)  and the Center for Machine Learning and Health (CMLH) are the two centers created by the Pittsburgh Health Data Alliance (PHDA), an unprecedented collaboration between Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and UPMC to revolutionize healthcare and wellness by leveraging “big data.”

The mission of the CCA is to develop basic scientific, translational and clinical research into academic commercial translation projects, and ultimately commercial technologies, that benefit patients, investigators, the universities, the Pittsburgh region, and the broader healthcare community.  sciVelo team members compose the CCA’s commercial translation architects, associates and program managers.  We collaborate with our partners at the Innovation Institute, Office of ResearchOffice of Corporate Engagement, and UPMC Enterprises to bring innovative digital health solutions to life. Since its formation in March 2015, the CCA has produced:

  • 63 active projects involving more than 65 university health sciences faculty
  • 66 projects pitched to UPMC
  • >30 invention disclosures filed
  • 9 cohorts of early-stage translational research projects pitched to UPMC Enterprises
  • 16 funded early-stage translational research projects with 3 graduates seeking second phase investment
  • 4 new startup companies
